A failing ceiling is one of those problems you can't ignore. It starts with a crack or a sag, and before long you're looking at exposed joists, old insulation dropping down, and damage creeping onto the walls. That's exactly what we were dealing with here in Fair Lawn - a bedroom that had seen water damage and age catch up with it all at once.
The old ceiling material had to come out completely. No patching over it, no shortcuts. Once it was stripped back to the joists, we hung new drywall, taped, mudded, and got everything smooth before a single drop of primer went on. The walls had their own issues too - peeling paint and damaged corners that needed to be addressed before we could move forward. We handled all of it.
To keep the rest of the house clean, we sheeted off the hallway wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Dust from a ceiling demo can get everywhere fast, so containment isn't optional - it's just part of doing the job right. The customer was still living in the home, so keeping the disruption contained mattered a lot.
Once the drywall work was done and primed, we went with Benjamin Moore Regal Select for the walls. It's a paint that covers well, holds up, and gives you a finish that actually looks sharp when the light hits it. The deep navy the customer picked works perfectly in that space - clean white trim, white ceiling, and those warm hardwood floors tie it all together.
Start to finish, the whole job was wrapped in 3 days. Ceiling out, drywall in, primed, painted, done. The customer got their bedroom back fast, and the room came out looking like something completely different from where it started.
